My careers over the years ranged through motherhood, spouse, single mom, college student, varied restaurant jobs, floral decorator, retail/wholesale business owner, clothing designer/decorator, licensed in home day care provider, after school care provider, summer school director and Waldorf elementary teacher. I came to Seattle in 1992, after graduating with a two year teacher’s certificate from the Rudolf Steiner College in Sacramento. I accepted the position of class teacher at the Seattle Waldorf School. The families and I began together with 24 first graders and graduated 20 eighth graders in 2000. In 1994, I re-married and our blended family brought together three boys and a girl between the ages of 13 & 17. While preparing to teach in a class of 20 + pre-pubescent students in 1996, I met Tamara Slayton. Her vast experience and research of woman’s relationships to their bodies, to earthly/cosmic rhythms; and to Spirit grounded her. She built her understanding and powerful insights of the human experience of puberty and adolescence on that foundation of women’s issues. Tamara’s passionate and articulate presence inspired my participation in a training given by her regarding a Coming of Age Program. I brought the whole of the coming of age program to the Seattle School between 1996 and 2000. After my sabbatical year, I returned to Tamara to collaborate and find my way to further support the needs of youth and the adults who care for them. I managed and produced four seminars with Tamara over the academic year of 2001/2002. Also during this time, Tamara and I created & managed the pre-print duties for the book- I Find My Star Curriculum. Another Waldorf teacher in Viroqua, Wisconsin, Anne Marie Fryer also made significant contributions to the book. We published the book between February 14th, 2002 and Spring 2006. I continued to teach part time as a substitute in the lower elementary grades. I also taught three week blocks in a variety of subjects, specializing in middle school issues and human fertility education. I have taught in many Waldorf schools, most recently The Aurora Waldorf School in Alaska, February 2006. See Calendar of Events. At present, my focus is writing the curricula and guides in support of teens and parents. My research and experimentation is toward rites of passage for the older adult and the transition between physical dying and death into the spiritually living.
